Hello

Over the years, I have experienced remarkable people sit with me and detail deep, meaningful memories. In many cases, these memories are attached to strong emotions which may distort the person's perception of themselves. I firmly believe that any person who makes a conscious decision to engage in therapy demonstrates strength. Time after time, I have witnessed these same people recognize the resiliency within themselves—that has always been there!

Hello,
I am Sean Travis, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Owner and Psychotherapist at New Paths Counseling, LLC. My professional experiences have included a wide range of clinical environments, such community mental health, private practice, and within hospital settings, with the most recent as the Clinical Supervisor and Senior Social Worker for the Outpatient Mental Health Program at The University of Pennsylvania, Princeton Health, Princeton, New Jersey. In addition to my role as a psychotherapist, I have enjoyed teaching as a Part-time Lecturer at Rutgers University, Graduate School of Social Work, as well as an Adjunct Professor at The Pennsylvania State University in Cognitive Psychology. As a Social Worker, I practice cognitive therapy, in conjunction with holistic and Ecosystemic Structural therapeutic approaches to support and understand the complete person. With a specialization in trauma treatment, such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, I have developed a nurturing and genuine approach in helping individuals regain life balance. I am a lover of nature and of learning, which I believe helps to shape my practice approach.

Educationally, I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. Graduate studies were completed at Shippensburg University, while simultaneously engaging in three years of training in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy from the Philadelphia Child and Family Training Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey, Licensed Social Worker in the State of Pennsylvania, and I have practiced in community-based programs, private practice, and as a member of a county task force aimed at reducing mental health stigma, and addressing compassion fatigue.

Stress affects everyone. Unexpected changes can derail us, while creating increases in anxiety and worry that can have an immediate impact on our mood. Through supportive and contemplative therapy, we can develop new insight into situations, our thoughts, and feelings to restore inner peace.

The paths that we choose in life can be enriching. I believe that we all have the inner skills of strength and resolve to promote and preserve our well-being. These inner skills are natural and essential to our functioning, and by tapping into them, we can connect with ourselves in ways unimaginable.
